Our Story

Quantum Advisors Private Limited (“Quantum”/”QAS”) was founded by Ajit Dayal as India’s first institutional equity research house in January 1990, eighteen months before the first significant set of reforms announced that allowed the Indian economy to break out of the ‘Hindu’ rate of growth.

Our Philosophy

"Institutional investors are finally talking about the triple P - the Planet, the People and Profit".

​As an investment firm, our mandate is to invest the capital of our clients for sensible long term returns without taking undue risks. It has been over 25 years since Quantum Advisors and its founders have included a "governance" factor when investing in companies. This is the "G" in "ESG".

In 2015, we started to focus on the other two factors (Environment and Social) and have built a proprietary framework on evaluating Indian companies on various ESG criteria.

Ajit Dayal set up Quantum, India’s first institutional equity research company.

1992
Completed research assignments for Barings (now ING Barings), Kleinwort/Asian Capital Partners (now Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein), and Jardine Fleming.
Exclusive Equity Research and Advisory Services with Jardine Fleming.
1995
1996
Subbu
I. V. Subramaniam (Subbu) joined Quantum. Subbu and Ajit are one of the longest tenured investment teams in Indian equity, having worked together for 24 years.

Quantum becomes Advisors to Walden Nikko India Ventures Fund.
Advisory services to Prolific India Opportunities Fund – US$ 11 million open ended fund. Prolific’s total exposure to the Indian market was over US$ 40 million.

Advisory services to Hansberger Global Investors, Inc. (HGI) on investments in Indian equities. HGI is an investment management group based in Florida, USA.

2000
Started managing money under the Portfolio Management Licence for what is now the Q India Value Equity Strategy.
Advisory services to Prolific India Opportunities Fund – US$ 11 million open ended fund. Prolific’s total exposure to the Indian market was over US$ 40 million.

Advisory services to Hansberger Global Investors, Inc. (HGI) on investments in Indian equities. HGI is an investment management group based in Florida, USA.

Investment advisor to QIEF Management LLC, the investment manager to QIEF Mauritius / Q India Equity Fund - a long-only India-focused open-ended equity fund.
Launched our first mutual fund schemes in Equity and Fixed Income for domestic Indian Investors in Quantum Mutual Fund.

2007
Launched the Real Estate Investment fund by partnering with Primary Real Estate Advisors
Registered as “Investment Advisor” with Securities Exchange Commission, USA in July 2009.
2009
2015
Set up an internal ESG Team to develop a proprietary ESG scoring methodology.
Registered as “Restricted Portfolio Manager” with Canadian Regulators in the provinces of British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec.
2016
2019
Used the proprietary ESG process to build a track record for Q India Responsible Returns Strategy.
Partnered with Prachetas Capital for India Private Equity
